Melbourne Podiatry Clinic can help painlessly remove callus, corn and ingrown toenails and implement strategies to prevent them reoccurring.
Callus and Corns
Callus and corns are painful, thickened areas of skin that develop over areas of pressure and friction. Typically callus and corns occur over bony prominences or areas of abnormal pressure due to ill-fitting footwear or structural abnormalities of the feet. We can hygienically remove the skin and provide ongoing care and management.
Treatment
Firstly we clean your feet. Then we gently debride the hard skin and trim the nails using sterile equipment. Finally a moisturiser is massaged in to the feet to leave them feeling fresh and rejuvenated.
Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails occur when the edge of a nail pierces the skin and causes an infection. They occur commonly in young and active people and can become very painful and debilitating. Often they do not resolve without a podiatrist removing the offending piece of nail. Ingrown nails are usually caused by poor nail cutting techniques, trauma or hereditary curved nails and can be avoided.
Nail Surgery
If the nail edge has become inflamed and infected, a temporary or permanent procedure under local anaesthetic is recommended. A small piece of nail is removed and depending on the procedure a chemical may be applied to prevent regrowth of the section of nail. Generally, regular activities can be resumed the following day with minimal pain.
*It is important if you suspect your nail is becoming ingrown to visit us as soon as possible before the pain and infection become too severe.*
